Deadbeat Guys! An increasing phenomenon.

What is wrong with these scenarios?

A woman is finding it difficult to get married and start a family because she is supporting her sick mother while her brother who works odd jobs doesn't do anything to help out.

A woman's husband works hard as an OFW. The woman however is finding it hard to cover her expenses because she gives money to her brother who is a 40 yr old accountant but doesn't have any work. The brother has a family but has not had any work in a year.

A brother and sister both have jobs and live with their parents. The problem is the sister is the only one contributing to the monthly expenses! While the brother spends his money on himself and his friends.

The women that I talk to above are all telling me - bakit ako lang! Bakit ayaw niya tumulong! Or bakit ayaw niya kumuha ng trabaho!

Here's the ultimate one. Women leaves her 3 kids and husband to work in another country while spoiled husband stays home and doesn't even work! Do you know how hard it is for a mother to be away from her kids?

I'm increasingly hearing more and more stories about deadbeat guys! and you know what these are all true stories!

Look I'm all for women's rights and gender equality but this is ridiculous. I'm still in the belief that a man's position in the family is as a provider. What use are you to your family and society in general if you can't provide for your own family.

If I was in a position that I had no job I would do anything in my power to earn money for my family. Does it matter if the job is 'beneath' you? Beggars can't be choosers! One of my mentors always told me that one of the first things a man should do is learn to drive because if nothing else you can be a driver! Swallow your pride and take any job available.

Ladies... if you have a deadbeat guy in your family - son, husband, brother, father? Don't let them get away with it! Stop spoiling them. In the end it is your family that will suffer.

  1. Eh, you think you know it all ah? What about this. A brother, sister, sister, grandmother, children stay in the same home. The grandmother does not work. The sister works. The brother manages the property that the grandma owns. But the grandma gets all the money for food expenses and all. They have to pay tax but the grandmother gets the money. So how the fock does the brother pay the taxes ha ha ha? Should he work to pay the taxes of the property owned by the grandmother? When in fact the brother does all the leg work all the management? ha hA? ako si brother by the way and i dont have work. This is what I do.

  2. Dear Sir, Thank you for your comment. Firstly, I don't appreciate your use of foul langauage in your comment. Secondly, I don't know why you are a little bit hurt by this blog when you are in fact working. You manage property. You are a property manager. Maybe you can negotiate with your grandmother for a small salary. Or, what if you ask her for performance incentive where if you can make more money from the property than she currently gets, you get the balance. I don't know what the property does but these are just my suggestions.

  3. No need to be serious man. I just talk like that when I am pissed off. Why did I get offended? Well because a lot of people who think like you judge me all the time. What's your work? They ask.

Nothing I say. But we have this house for rent.

    Ha? Wala kang work.

I said we have this house for rent.

Teka, I am going to introduce you to this so and so and maybe you can work as a driver.

    Ha?

    You get my drift?

You can't manage finances in my kind of situation. Technically I am a paper multimillionaire with assets of up to 10 million pesos. But you know what? My life is not like that. I technically have to wash f0cking dishes every single f0cking day of my f0cking life.

Negotiation does not work in a severely convoluted atmosphere.

There. Pardon me for my language.

  4. Oh by the way, this month I have to b0rrow money to pay 0ff the government RPT. Because my superior mother has to spend the money that we are earning.

  5. I don't judge you. You shouln't tell people that you don't do anything. You should tell them that you manage your family's properties.

I'm curious to know how old you are because your mom seems to control your life. If you aren't benefitting from what you are doing then I think you have to start doing something about it.

You say you have properties worth 10m. What type of property is it? And how much revenue are you currently generating from it?

Where does your 'superior mother' spend the money you make? Does she spend it on useless things or on your family's basic needs?

  9. Heh, I asked the tenants to advance money.

    *bangs head on the wall*

I have 2 new problems though. BIR registration and our resort. We have a resort thats not operational. It's family owned registered in the SEC however we were not able to comply for documentation 3 years now. If I told you why that *could* give away my identity.

Now this resort siphons almost 20% of our income from the rent here in the city.

Man, I'd really like to meet you but I don't know if I can trust you. In this business environment it's so hard to trust anybody - not even family and friends. I got burned so many times that I am like an African already.

Our family is surrounded by vultures and wolves. It's so difficult to trust anybody.

  10. Btw, let's keep the anonymity ok? I don't want to have to register another email account just to pester you with my pathetic life.

    :D

  11. Re your resort and BIR problem. There are many things you can do to have that resolved. Of course that is something I can't tell you in a public forum. But its not as big a problem as you think. I have no problem with anonymity or secrecy. It's totally up to you what you want to do. I'm just here to help. You know my email anyway.

  12. Hi again, hoover. Do you feel stalked? Not to worry I only stalk this blog and not your person per se.

    Anyway, BIR problem got resolved.

Tell me, do you like lobsters?

Coz that's what they fu**ing ordered when we talked to some mid level bureaucrat! These hypocrites live the high life I tell you. And what do they do with the money? They dine in NY!

    There. I've said my piece.

Now on to my next project. What do you think about tricycles? I know I am aiming low here - but I've got leverage from the rent income, you see. I am aiming for low income but high volume businesses. A tricycle costs roughly 80K to 150k depending on the specs. A tricycle boundary costs 120 to 150 a day. Now if I can buy 1 tricycle in two months. In 2 years I'll have 12 tricycles. Suppose each makes as low as 100 a day. 100 x 12 = 1200 a day x 30 (days in a month) = 36,000 a month. Franchise from city government is 3,000 a year. Let's peg maintenance cost to a generous 20% of the boundary.

I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Thank you man for being patient.

  13. To be honest I'm not a big fan of the transport business. I mean some people can really make it work. But those people know a lot about how vehicles and tricycles work. If you are one of those people who do then go for it. But if you know nothing about how to repair and run a tricycle then I guarantee you that they will get you on the maintenance costs. I speak from experience because I used to run 36 FX. Income was great. Problem was I got killed in the maintenance costs. Why? Because I knew nothing about cars.

  14. stumbled upon your blog. Interesting read. I agree with most of your ideas. I've written about wealth creation for some websites myself and I also see how the minds of most people are clouded by "work" stereotypes promoted by most schools in the Philippines. will bookmark this future references. Keep it up.

  16. Hi Hoover,

You mentioned your 'mentors'. Care to share who they are and why?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I have many mentors... I mean a lot. I try to learn as much as I can from people and books of course. Specially people who have a lot of experience.
